Recent film productions use talented artists who know how to combine artistic creativity with technology. Many of these talents are Italian and find success (whether working in major video and film production companies, or independently) in highly respected roles in the international arena. The event La vita animata (An Animated Life) aims to highlight the Italian professionalism involved in different areas of professional animation and at the same time offer a networking opportunity to all the professionals and enthusiasts of this sector.
How will the event will unfold:
After the introduction by the director of the Cultural Institute of Amsterdam, Dr. Carmela Callea, three professionals in the world of professional animation will share their work and career with the audience, highlighting the importance of the Italian contribution to this artistic field on the international scene. At the end of the question and answer session, the Italian Cultural Institute will offer refreshments.

Three stars from the world of professional animation will share their work and career in a celebration of the Italian contribution to this global field. Sarah Arduini, character animator at Industrial Light and Magic in London will share her insights from inside the blockbuster studio system; Virgilio Villoresi, joining us from Milan, will share his experience making stop-motion animation for high-end clients, and Cesare Davolio, an illustrator and animator based in Rotterdam will shed light on the balance between designing for print, animating, and teaching.
Sarah Arduini
lives in London and is a character and special effects animator specialized in 3D digital animation. In the past, she worked for Moving Picture Company (MPC), collaborating with Walt Disney for films such as The Jungle Book, winner of the Oscar for special effects in 2017. Currently, Sarah works for Industrial Light and Magic, a company that created special effects for Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park and many other successful films. She will share with us her work experience within the blockbuster studio system;
Cesare Davolio
is an Illustrator, Animator and teacher of Illustration and Animation at Willem de Kooning Academy of Art and Design in Rotterdam, Netherlands. During his presentation, he will tell us about his work and the balance between design for printing, animation and teaching. In addition to creating animated documentaries, editorial illustrations, animated titles, and television series for children, has recently collaborated on the creation of a touching animated video for Amnesty International. The alternation of cultural and commercial work inspires, in turn, his personal work.
Virgilio Villoresi
joins us from Milan, and is an independent animator. During this evening, he will talk about his award-winning commercial work in stop-motion animation, making spots for important companies such as Valentino, Moleskine, Vogue and Sammontana. His individual style is inspired by Georges Méliès’s cinematic illusions and his pre-cinema special effects.
