ITALIAN DESIGN DAY 2023
The Italian Embassy in The Hague and the Italian Cultural Institute of Amsterdam present “IDD – Italian Design Day 2023”
9th March 2023 at 18.00 h. at the Italian Cultural Institute in Amsterdam.
Italian Design Day in the World (IDD) is an event launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy in 2017, dedicated to Italian design and the promotion of its talents around the world.
As in the past editions a theme has been chosen, this year it is “The quality that illuminates. The energy of design for people and the environment”, a theme in line with previous editions which reflects the growing global focus on sustainability.
Italian Design Day in the World is a project launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it is the result of a fruitful team work of MiBACT, MISE, ICE Agenzia, Confindustria, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI), Fondazione ADI-Compasso d’Oro, Federlegno Arredo, Salone del Mobile Milano and Triennale Milano.
Italian Embassies and Italian Cultural Institutes around the world host “Italian design ambassadors” who present the best of Italian design.
This year, architects Giovanni Bellotti and Alessandra Covini of the Rotterdam based Studio Ossidiana are the “Italian design ambassadors” in The Netherlands and present
“INIZI CONTINUI” – “CONTINUAL BEGINNINGS”
the title chosen for the events is the lens through which we’d like to look at design today: a continuous beginning, a project of dialogues and translations, where design becomes the common language between different forms of knowledge and authorship. Both action and object, design binds people and materials, labour and ideas, at its best, it produces knowledge and relations, along with objects.
This Italian Design Day will be a celebration of Italian design as well as the beginning of a series of events with curators, artists, artisans and producers, programmed throughout the year by the Italian cultural Institute in Amsterdam in collaboration with Studio Ossidiana. Together, we will look at design as a form of cultivation, of care towards materials, people, and other animals. Each event will be the continuation of a conversation, and a beginning for future projects.
